The days of the Buddhist holy days revolve around the phases of the moon or other nature related times.
- Vesak: The Birthday of Buddha, celebrated on the first full moon day in May.
- Magha Puja: A religious festival celebrated by Buddhists in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos on the full moon day of the third lunar month.
- Asalha Puja Day: Also known as “Dharma Day” this celebrates the Buddha’s first teaching.
- Uposatha: Known as Observance Day. These are the four holy days on the new moon, full moon, and quarter moon days of every month.
- Loy Krathong: When the rivers and canals are full of water, this festival takes place in all parts of Thailand. Bowls made with leaves, candles and incense sticks are placed in water and represent bad luck disappearing.
